Overview of bands for V2X

Obr G7: Overview of bands for V2X [G23]

The use of LTE sidelink-based V2X services is divided (Figure 7) into different regions based on radio frequency requirements and regulations. In ITU Region 1, which includes Europe, the use of ITS spectrum is regulated by ETSI and falls within the band 5.855 Gigahertz to 5.925 Gigahertz. ECC Decision (08)01 defines the use of the 5.905 Gigahertz to 5.925 Gigahertz subband for non-security ITS, while the 5.855 Gigahertz to 5.875 Gigahertz range is reserved for ITS security applications. In ITU Region 2, which includes the Americas and Greenland, the V2V architecture and protocols are standardized by the IEEE 802.11 and 1609 working group under the name Wireless Access Vehicular Environments (WAVE) and operate in the 5.850 Gigahertz to 5.925 Gigahertz band with a 5 MHz guard band. In ITU Region 3, which includes Asia and Australia, ITS standardization has been published by the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) in South Korea and the Japanese Association of Radio Industry and Business (ARIB) also specified a V2V and V2I communication system in the 700 MHz frequency band.
